Life Link's La Luz de Santa Fe Family Shelter opened in 1987 in an eleven-unit rundown motel with three women volunteers. We began with one paid staff member, the resident manager, and financial support from a single donor. The Life Link now has a paid staff of over thirty-five, 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the IRS (received in 1988) and city, county, state, and national funding. For more than a decade, we have been assisting homeless families (couples and single parents with children) and mentally ill homeless individuals through strategies that focus on safety-security, emotional stability, and self-esteem.
